With over 5.5 Billion smartphone devices in use by 2019. How do consumers want to top-up?

Pile of smart phones

Consumers are increasingly hooked to their Smartphones; some are so obsessed they sleep with them; an emotional attachment whenever they see updates from their loved ones. Others can no longer make decisions without referring to Google.

It is like oxygen, most consumers cannot get through their day without their Smartphone.

Data heavy video is increasingly the communication of choice, but what may be surprising is that over 80% of the world’s population is still acquiring their data via a pre-pay account to top-up, and the frequency of top-up grows to match this increased data consumption.

So in this world of instantaneous self-management applications, why are so many scratching a paper voucher code at the local shop to access this digital world?

The traditional ways of topping up are through vouchers and Interactive voice response or IVR (which is a technology that allows a computer to interact with humans through the use of voice and DTMF tones input via keypad). But topping up can be made so much easier with many alternative digital payment options. The digital top-up process itself provides a smoother consumer journey. It is simple to use and you can top-up anytime, anywhere with peace of mind knowing that your transaction is secure and controlled. It also allows you to top up more quickly or can be recurring meaning you automatically get topped up so you never have to worry about running out of credit. Mi-Pay has a service called auto recharge which automatically tops up when you are running out of credit and that means you are ‘always on’  such, that streaming becomes more achievable on Prepay than ever before. With Mi-Pay digital solutions the prepay service now not only provides better cash flow and improved margins for the operator but create a recurring relationship without a binding agreement which drives consumers to return in a safe and secure environment.

Mi-Pay enables these digital options and provides insight into customer behavior and benefits to our client, the Mobile Network Operator (MNO).

We are continually innovating to enhance the MNO’s service. On a program of digital transformation, our goal is to enable our clients to serve more customers. With the ability to adapt, the change to digital top-up will be possible.
