In his excellent Mobile Banking Blog, Hannes van Rensburg from Fundamo talks about a recent presentation from CGAP talking about the funding of consumers mobile wallets through the delivery of grants and pension money directly onto their mobile money account.
Whilst that's a very powerful potential argument in favour of the deployment of mobile money systems such as those from Mi-Pay and others, an even more powerful reason to obtain national Government backing in my view, is the inherent ability to use mobile money services and their agents as local and regional tax collectors.
I'm not seen any mention of this in any presentations or promotions that I have seen, but its a great selling point to anyone dealing with a Central Bank in trying to obtain a mobile money licence...
